Melbourne, Australia—4 August 2017—Neota Logic, creators of a leading artificial intelligence (AI)-driven platform for the intelligent automation of expertise, documents, and business processes, are sponsoring Disrupting Law, a 54-hour hackathon being held 4-6 August at Queensland University of Technology (QUT) for students focused on finding new opportunities in the legal industry.

The event includes 14 teams partnered with law firms designing concepts that will “disrupt law” and is co-hosted by The Legal Forecast, a not-for-profit advancing legal practice through technology and innovation, and QUT Starters, a student society building a culture of entrepreneurship and innovation.

Director of The Legal Forecast, Milan Ghandi comments:

“Disrupting Law is an unparalleled opportunity for students from law, tech and other backgrounds to meet myriad mentors from industry and work together to invent a novel solution to a problem faced by lawyers or their clients (or both).  Last year, two of the ideas, including the winner, went on to become real world businesses.  Thirteen incredible law firms are joining us for the weekend and in our experience the lawyers have just as much fun as the students. We are super excited that Neota Logic is an event partner this year because they represent precisely what the weekend is about: re-imagining professional services.  We are looking forward to Neota’s representatives giving the students some advice and assistance regarding the practical and commercial elements of their submissions.”

Neota Logic is a proud sponsor of this exciting competition, as it aligns with our beliefs of a future with professional services that are automated and transformed.  Neota Logic team members will be on hand during the weekend to provide advice and encouragement to participants. On the final night of the event where all teams present and pitch their ideas to a panel of experienced judges which includes APAC Managing Director Julian Uebergang, a variety of awards and prizes will be won, a student with the most impressive concept with a technical background will be presented with The Neota Logic Award.

“It’s fantastic to be involved with this incredible round-up of law firm and student talent, all working together over a three-day period to arrive at a unique legal innovation. In the current age, where the use of technology is pervasive, we firmly believe that enabling students with digital product skills will be an essential ingredient to complement their skillset.  We’re looking forward to seeing what AI-powered applications students create and how they will advance legal practice.” says Julian Uebergang, Managing Director of Asia Pacific of Neota Logic.”

Other event sponsors include Janders Dean, the Centre for Legal Innovation, Thomson Reuters, Suncorp Bank and QUT Law School. Additional information on the event can here.
